How ClassGrade Pilot works

You grade right inside Google Classroom with a side panel in Chrome. The AI suggests a score and feedback for each student from your rubric. You check every grade, then send the approved ones back to Classroom. Here's the whole thing, start to finish.

The 8 steps

  1. 1

    Install the Chrome extension

Add ClassGrade Pilot from the Chrome Web Store. It's free and takes a few seconds.

Tip: Pin it: click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar, then the pin next to ClassGrade Pilot.

  2. 2

    Open a Classroom assignment

Go to classroom.google.com, open the assignment you want to grade, and click the "Student work" tab.

Tip: Use "Student work", not "Instructions". That's the page with your students' names and grade boxes.

  3. 3

Open the side panel and sign in

Click the ClassGrade Pilot icon. A panel opens next to Classroom. Click Sign in once to connect it to this account.

Tip: Already signed in here? The panel connects instantly.

  4. 4

    Import submissions

Click "Import roster". Short answers fill in automatically. For Google Docs, paste the student's text into their row.

Tip: Students who haven't turned work in are flagged, so you don't spend credits on empty work.

  5. 5

    Add or pick a rubric

Upload your rubric as a PDF or Word file, or choose one you've saved before. We turn it into criteria and points.

Tip: Clear, specific criteria give the most accurate scores.

  6. 6

    Run AI grading

Click Grade. Each submission is scored against every criterion, with a short reason and suggested feedback.

Tip: Takes about 5 to 10 seconds per student. Keep the panel open until it finishes.

  7. 7

    Review and edit

Check every score before anything is saved. Approve the ones you agree with and untick the ones you want to change.

Tip: You're always the one who decides the final grade.

  8. 8

    Send grades to Classroom

Click Apply. Approved scores go into Classroom as draft grades. Students see them only when you return the work.

Tip: If a row can't be filled in, the panel tells you which students to enter by hand.

You stay in control

Nothing is saved to Classroom until you approve it, and grades go in as drafts.

Works with your rubric

Upload the PDF or Word rubric you already use. Reuse it on any assignment.

Private by design

Student work is used only to grade your assignment, never to train AI.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Grading happens in a side panel next to your Google Classroom assignment, so you never copy and paste between tabs. This website is where you manage your account, rubrics, plan and grading history.
